Basic biological therapy

Biological therapy is the basis of the holistic treatment concept according to Dr. Wöppel. Therefore, we also call it biological basic therapy. The basic therapy serves to stimulate the various detoxification possibilities of our body via liver, kidneys, intestines, skin and mucous membranes through homeopathic medications, intestinal cleansing, colon hydrotherapy (COHT), vitamins (antioxidants) and trace elements, enzymes, ozone therapy, oxygen multi-step therapy and other physical measures. Find out more about each procedure here.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants reduce the harmful effect of free radicals in the body. These are short-lived, but very reactive and aggressive molecules, which are produced in the organism by metabolic processes or by supplied chemical substances or radiation. A healthy body has many protective mechanisms that immediately catch and deactivate these free radicals. These include the body's own substances as well as antioxidants supplied with food such as vitamins A, C and E, the trace element selenium, β-carotene or many secondary plant substances such as polyphenols or flavonoids, which can react with the free radicals in the cells.

In the case of increased oxidative stress, e.g. as a result of environmental or a strong radiation exposure, in the case of inflammations or tumors in the body, but also in the case of any form of stress load, the formation of free radicals can be increased to such an extent that the body's own protective systems are no longer sufficient. Damage can then occur, e.g. to cell membranes, cellular protein compounds such as enzymes or the genetic material (DNA). Today it is assumed that oxidative stress is often causally involved in many diseases and complaints. These include lipometabolic disorders, diabetes mellitus, chronic inflammations, allergies, but also cardiovascular diseases and oncological diseases.

The intake of vitamins and trace elements cannot and should not replace a healthy whole-food diet. Nevertheless, an additional supply of free radical scavengers can significantly reduce oxidative stress when the body's own stores are often empty and the demand is greatly increased in stressful situations and during illness. Vitamins and trace elements are not used uncritically or in the form of dietary supplements, but in therapeutic dosages as medicines orally and as infusions. Here now some information about vitamin D3, selenium and vitamin C.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D affects calcium metabolism and thus strengthens bones and muscles. It also has a positive influence on the immune system and cell metabolism. Therefore, we recommend taking vitamin D in combination with vitamin K2 not only in cases of osteoporosis, but also in cases of susceptibility to infections as well as chronic inflammatory and oncological diseases.

Selenium

Selenium is a vital trace element. The source of selenium in food is animal and vegetable protein. Selenium is a component of the enzyme gluthation peroxidase, which is involved in important metabolic processes and contributes to the detoxification of the body by defending against free radicals. Furthermore, selenium is important for an intact immune system. At the Hufeland Klinik, we use selenium in preventive health care, for existing chronic diseases, and in tumor therapy in the form of tablets and infusions. In tumor diseases, selenium can effectively help to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Vitamin C

In the course of evolution, humans have lost the ability to produce this vital vitamin themselves and must obtain it from food. Vitamin C is concentrated to varying degrees in the individual organs of the body. Here, high concentrations reflect a high demand. The highest concentrations are found in the liver, adrenal glands, eye lenses, brain and immune cells. In our body, vitamin C is indispensable for strengthening and stimulating the immune system, the endocrine and nervous systems, regulating fat metabolism, stimulating the detoxification system, forming and maintaining the function of bones and connective tissue, and participating in wound healing. Vitamin C is also an important free radical scavenger and plays an important role in inflammatory diseases and radiation exposure.

Vitamin C high-dose infusion therapy

The basis of vitamin C high-dose therapy is the knowledge that in numerous diseases the vitamin C requirement is far higher than can be supplied to the organism via the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, the absorption by the intestinal mucosa is often reduced due to the disease. Sometimes therapeutically effective vitamin C levels can only be achieved by supplying vitamin C directly to the body via the bloodstream, i.e. as an infusion. Since vitamin C is water-soluble, the body cannot build up large storage reserves. Excess vitamin C is excreted again. Therefore, the risk of overdose is low. High-dose vitamin C therapy often proves helpful and healing in the recovery phase after serious illnesses and operations. A significant improvement in viral, bacterial or fungal infections has also been demonstrated. Vitamin C infusion therapy has also proven its worth as a biological restorative cure for general weakness, susceptibility to infections and loss of performance.

Ozone therapy

While the oxygen in the air we breathe consists of two oxygen atoms (O2), ozone (O3) consists of three oxygen atoms and is therefore particularly reactive. Therefore, when it is brought together with blood during medical application as part of the so-called "great autologous blood therapy", it reacts within seconds with constituents of the blood, which it converts into energy-rich catalysts; in the process, ozone becomes pure oxygen again, which enriches the blood. Medical ozone is always a mixture of purest oxygen and purest ozone, about 99.5% oxygen and only 0.5% ozone. Since the ozone molecule is not stable, it transforms into pure oxygen, which makes the blood oxygenated and active, which can be seen by the change of the initially dark red color of the blood into a bright red color (this is why ozone therapy is often called "blood washing").

In addition, reaction products with blood-own substances are formed from ozone. These act as catalysts and - scientifically proven - activate the metabolism of red blood cells and tissues, improve oxygen delivery from blood to tissues, activate immune cells, release endogenous cytokines (interferons, interleukins, etc.) and help detoxification by activating endogenous antioxidants and radical scavengers. The use of medical ozone to activate the body's defenses in cases of reduced resistance and oncological diseases, to optimize the metabolism, to revitalize the aging process or to treat inflammatory diseases is therefore very useful.

It can favorably influence concentration disorders, forgetfulness, general performance deficiencies, unsteadiness when walking and dizziness, resulting in a significant increase in the quality of life. Numerous scientific publications can prove the benefits of this therapy. However, as with all other therapies, there is no predictable guarantee of success with ozone therapy.

Intestinal reorganization

The intestine is an important part of the body's defense system. Approximately 70% of our white blood cells (leukocytes) are found here. There are various interactions between the immune system in the intestine and the bacteria of the intestinal flora. For example, a healthy intestinal flora stimulates the lymphocytes in the intestine to release certain messenger substances that are needed in the defense against pathogenic germs. The intestinal flora can also stimulate or inhibit the formation of antibodies. The composition of the intestinal flora has a direct influence on the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa. The microorganisms promote the renewal of the mucosa and strengthen the barrier between "inside" and "outside". In case of overgrowth of pathogenic germs in the intestinal flora, some substances and pathogens can enter the blood, which in a healthy state do not pass through the mucosa into the organism. Then the immune system is activated and inflammatory processes occur.

A biologically oriented therapy will therefore always include the intestine in the treatment (= intestinal rehabilitation). Unfavorable eating habits (fast-food, too hasty, too much, especially too much animal food and meat, refined sugar, coffee, alcohol, nicotine) lead to intestinal sluggishness, the intestinal flora deteriorates and produces toxins such as phenols, cresols, lndols and histamines, which are reabsorbed into the bloodstream and burden our metabolism. When we eat right, we favor our healthy intestinal flora, which is very important in improving our metabolism and building our immune system.

In addition to a balanced diet rich in fiber, intestinal cleansing (see COHT) and the administration of microbial medications are part of intestinal rehabilitation. These are killed or living bacteria that have no pathogenic properties. They positively influence the intestinal mucosa and its immunologically active components. In the case of chronic diseases, we consider intestinal rehabilitation as a long-term therapy.

COHT - Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon enemas and enemas have been known for centuries as a detoxification therapy. In America, enemas with coffee are widely used for colon cleansing because the caffeine additionally promotes bile flow and activates the liver. American scientists were also the ones who adopted the old treatment method and created the basis for modern colon (= large intestine) hydrotherapy. Today, this can be performed hygienically, comfortably and almost odor-free. Because it is applied while the patient is lying down, colon hydrotherapy is very well tolerated by all patients.

How does the colon hydrotherapy proceed?

On the day of COHT, a cleansing enema is administered early in the morning by the night nurse to pre-cleanse the bowel. After the initial bowel evacuation on the toilet, you will lie down on the couch. There, a short intestinal tube will be inserted into the anus, which we will connect to our colon hydro device. With gentle pressure and a pleasant massage of the abdomen from the outside, water is let into the colon until you feel that it is enough. Automatically, the contaminated water then drains down the drain and another flush with fresh water can follow. We usually flush until the water comes out relatively clear again, which can take varying amounts of time (duration is about 3/4 hr). Unlike enema, colon hydrotherapy cleanses the entire colon because the amount of liquid, which increases from rinse to rinse, reaches all parts of the colon. The abdominal massage is wonderfully relaxing and also loosens more stubborn stool residue from your intestinal wall. Do not be afraid, nothing hurts. Relax and breathe in and out calmly; use abdominal breathing to allow the diaphragm to perform an internal abdominal massage. The more you can let go and relax, the less tense your bowels will be, the better the cleansing and the faster you will experience success.

The COHT is only prescribed by the doctor and is not suitable for every patient! It is not a substitute for intestinal cleansing, which is only possible through a consistent change in diet. Patients who do not adhere to a sensible, wholesome diet also hardly benefit from COHT.
