We see the benefits of therapeutic fasting not only as a purely preventative measure for clinically "healthy" people, but also recommend fasting as an effective therapeutic component in the treatment of chronic and oncological diseases at the Hufeland Clinic. For example, fasting for 36 hours before and up to 24 hours after chemotherapy has proven effective for some oncology patients, as it can significantly improve both the effectiveness and tolerability of chemotherapy. This was shown in a study conducted by Charité Berlin in 2018 in patients with breast and ovarian cancer. However, it is very important to always look at the overall picture of the patient's situation in each individual case and to carefully examine the indication for fasting on the part of the doctor. We are therefore happy to integrate therapeutic fasting into our 5-pillar therapy concept.
We also see therapeutic fasting as a useful additional measure in the tumor-free interval after surgery and generally in an adjuvant situation (for secondary prophylaxis during remission of a tumor disease).
Healing fasting is also suitable for metabolic support during intensive, naturopathic, anti-inflammatory therapy, for example for many "rheumatic" diseases, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
There is initial experience and evidence that healing fasting also has a positive effect as part of long-covid therapy.
